Washington College: A Top-Tier Maryland Liberal Arts College

Blackboard 9 is coming soon to Washington College and Instructional Technology wants to make sure that our faculty clients are up to speed on this great new learning management system. This workshop will cover the new features of Blackboard 9 as well as offering a forum for questions with Instructional Technology staff and faculty colleagues. Each session will also feature a tutorial on how to back up and archive your existing Blackboard 6.2 courses in preparation for moving them over to Blackboard 9.

These sessions will be hands on, so please feel free to bring your own notebook computer or a USB flash drive to store your course archives.

Washington College is making the move to the latest versions of Microsoft Office 2007 (Windows) and Office 2008 (Macintosh). Attend this one-hour presentation and learn why the move is necessary, who is moving and when, and the benefits of upgrading. The presentation will also include a brief overview of the most common feature enhancements in Microsoft Word 2007 and 2008. If you are experiencing problems opening Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents, then upgrading your Microsoft Office applications may be the solution. This one-hour presentation will help you prepare for the upgrade.

This workshop teaches you some of the methods and tools that professional photographers use to improve the look of their photos. This updated workshop utilizes the three components that are installed with Photoshop CS3 - Bridge, Camera RAW, and Photoshop itself. You'll learn a non-destructive workflow that lets you enhance and refine your images, giving you a level of control like never before!

Note: We have a campus-wide license for Adobe Photoshop CS3, which allows you to have and use the program on your computer as long as you are a student, faculty, or staff member! Want to take advantage of this? Contact the HelpDesk (410-778-7777) to schedule an installation.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Photoshop or equivalent knowledge.

Digital Video Production teaches users the fundamentals of good videography. It covers pre-production and production, including storyboarding, shot lists, legal issues, framing, stabilization, lighting, sound, and other techniques to acquire high quality video. This workshop includes both demonstration and hands-on learning.

In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of using Adobe InDesign for page layout. During the first session, we will go over the basic tools and functionality of InDesign and on the second day we will begin constructing a project step by step to gain practice with the most common tasks.

Attendance of the second session is optional but strongly encouraged as it provides very useful hands on experience with Adobe InDesign.
