What does OIT stand for?
The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) is the central IT organization for Washington College. Our mission is to provide strategic leadership
and advocacy for the use of information technologies that facilitate the College's vision for excellence in teaching, scholarship, outreach,
and lifelong learning.
What does OIT do?
OIT provides guidance in the development of computer polices that governs
the College's access and use of technology. OIT provides and maintains
a robust network architecture and infrastructure; ensures network security
and educates the Washington College community in the uses of IT. OIT is
responsible for assessing, designing, acquiring, and implementing service
delivery of information technology systems. The overall goal of OIT is
to help the College use technology in order to enhance the way professors
teach, students learn and staff use information technology in their employment.
Who makes up OIT?
Billie Dodge, The Chief Information Officer, provides leadership for the 4 divisions, which comprise OIT.
The four divisions are:
- Academic Computing and IT Support Services
- Administrative Systems
- Central Support Services
- Infrastructure Support
Each division is made up of dedicated Washington College employees whose main purpose is to assist student, faculty and staff in enhancing the
learning environment through the use of technology.
How does OIT help students, faculty and staff at Washington College?
OIT offers such things as technology training, video editing, network
support, software support, hardware support, virus support, Computing
Center Support, On-site Software Support, Support for technology in academic research
and instruction, Web hosting services, management for the administrative
server and software that support all administrative offices, Mail Distribution
Service, Technical Support Services/Audio-Visual, Telecommunications...
How do I get help from OIT?
Your first point of contact for any problems concerning technology,
the network, and the telephone network is the Helpdesk. You can contact
the help desk at extension x7777 or at helpdesk@washcoll.edu. The
HelpDesk is located in William Smith Hall, Room 2.
Does OIT offer training?
Yes, OIT offers a variety of technology workshops for students, faculty, and staff. Some past workshop titles include Digital Video Training, Creating
Dynamic Presentations with PowerPoint, Introduction to Video Editing, and Introduction to Photoshop. Check the Training and Tutorials page for upcoming Training opportunities.
What equipment does OIT offer?
OIT operates and maintains both Mac and Windows platform computer labs
around campus. In addition, OIT offers such equipment as laptops, projectors,
video equipment, editing equipment, scanners, printers, and digital cameras.
