Introduction to Webmail
WebMail is our Web Based Email system. Using WebMail you can check your Email anywhere in the world. It's fast, easy to use and all you need is a browser. To login, open Internet Explorer. Go to the address www.washcoll.edu, and click onto the "Login" button near the top right of the Washington College home page.
The first time you login to your new email account, you should change your password. Click onto "Change your login password".
Enter your new login name (Network User ID), password (given to you with your Network User ID) and your new password (in the last two fields). NOTE: Your password must be 6-8 characters alphanumeric (contain both letters and numbers).
Click the "change" button. The next screen will read "Password Successfully Changed". Press the "Back" button twice to return to http://webmail.washcoll.edu/src/login.php.
Enter your email Name (Network User ID) and Password. Press the "Login" button.
Washington College Web Mail is similar to Hotmail and other web email services.
Mailboxes can be created and managed from either Thunderbird or Web Mail, and will be stored on the IMAP server. To manage Folders (Mailboxes) in Web Mail, click onto "Folders" near top of the screen. Note that Folder Unsubscribe and Subscribe options correspond to Subscribed Mailbox options in Thunderbird.
Customize Web Mail by clicking onto "Options" near top of the screen, then selecting one of the Options categories.
One very useful option is to show file sizes. Click onto "Index Order". With "Size" selected in the drop-down box, click the "Add" button.
Another particularly useful option is filters. Click onto "Message Filters". Click onto "New", create filter, then click the "Submit" button. The "done" button will close the window without saving the new filter.
Click onto "Inbox" near the left side of the screen to return to the Inbox window.
"Addresses" which you enter, are stored on the WebMail server and are not available from Thunderbird. "Directory" accesses the new email accounts of the Washington College community using the LDAP server, and is updated at regular intervals. A "WC" Address Book is also available for local installation (on computer hard drive, not from server) with Thunderbird.
